Five Years of Five Star Spray Tans in Kansas City: A Reflection

On July 13, 2016, RR celebrated five years in business. I'm not terribly business savvy, but I am smart enough to know that half of all small businesses close their doors in the first five years (Google told me that). I also know a lot about my industry...enough to know that that number is much higher for spray tanning businesses.

But here I sit with a THRIVING spray tanning studio in Olathe. We just opened a second studio in Overland Park three weeks ago...which was, quite frankly, beyond my imagination even six months ago. But in March, it became evident to me that this was my year. This was the year that would change RR forever.

By the middle of June, we had as many new clients through our doors this year as we had all of last year combined. Last week, we surpassed the total number of tans we did all last year combined. And we're only just over halfway through the year?!?!

In the beginning, it was hard to imagine sitting here today. The early days of RR were filled with a crazy haze of overwhelm from working full-time and running RR part-time...completed by a massive side helping of self-doubt. Who was I to think that I could live a life I love...and pay my bills doing something I love? So many people just get by from day to day, going to a job that merely let's them get by...wasn't that my fate, also?

As I started focusing on all of the things I DID have and showing gratitude for them, instead of all the things I wished for so badly, but felt I could never really achieve...a shift happened in my life. A shift that has brought all of you to my business. A shift that has aligned our paths perfectly and given me the opportunity to serve you over the last five years. A shift that today overwhelms me with gratitude instead of fear and self-doubt. Today, I know that RR is here to stay and grow and thrive...and I know that because of you.

I will never be able to thank you for how you have changed my I get to get up and do something I absolutely love every single day because of you. I will never be able to explain to you the happiness you bring to my heart with your stories and the laughs we share...or the gratitude I have for each and every one of you. Whether I've seen you once or dozens of times over the years, YOU have changed me and my life for the better. For that...I am eternally grateful.

So as we embark on the next five years, I don't even dare to fathom what they may bring. Whatever it is...I know it's gonna be good. My dreams are bigger, my desire to help others is greater and my ability to achieve those things has never been more within my ability. We look forward to continuing to serve you and thank you for the opportunity to do so.

Cheers to five years!

(and now Kristen, too!)
